For those of you that weren’t able to attend this month’s Trojan Coaches Club dinner meeting, you missed one ‘for the ages’. From the ambiance of Oregon State utilizing the baseball field for its 3-game set against Troy that weekend, to the generous pours at the bar by Steve Zahn, the ample and tasty dinner provided by First Street Cuisine, tipped off by talks from two coaches with three NCAA national championships and a former football player with one more – all in all, a terrific time!

Leading off the after dinner talks was seven-season women’s sand volleyball coach Anna Collier (173-32), with two of those NCAA championships. She commented that she really enjoyed “our over the top passion” for SC.

Kiedane McAlpine, fourth year head coach of the women’s soccer team, at 61-19-9, with our 2016 NCAA championship, may have sent another record of sorts bringing in 3 graduate transfers from Notre Dame!
But it may have been 1978 NCAA football champion Lynn Cain that stole the show. Yes, the same Lynn Cain that was the full back for Charlie White’s Heisman year! A local boy, Cain took us through is upbringing, eventually heeding the advice of older brothers, his Mom, and influential coaches, put in “the time” it takes to not only succeed but to excel. He expected to be “the man” when he was recruited by John McKay, but came to understand his role on this very special team. From laughter to tears, Cain held us in the palm of his hand that night!
Cash contributions to each coach’s program were made. Oh, and the Club made a donation to Legacy Foundation of the Rose Bowl, gaining recognition for the statue planned for legendary announcer Keith Jackson. Dan Richardson took numerous pictures that will be posted to our www.trojancoachesclub.com website. Ray Regalado was also recognized for his multiple decades as our Secretary and check-in table guru.
Here’s your “heads up” for the next couple of TCC events:
- July 17th, Board meeting, at The Study Hall (Hoover and 29th)
- August 17th, Salute to Troy, two tables are to be reserved
- September is proposed for our next dinner meeting on campus
- November 3rd, get together to watch the away game against Oregon State, possibly at Traditions
Be a part of the reemergence of Trojan Coaches Club. You’ll be with “SC friends, swapping stories and hearing from our best coaches and their stories.” What could possibly be better than that?
Fight On!
