IN LOVING MEMORY
Bent Davies
October 8, 1925 — January 20, 2018

Bent Davies, 92, passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 20th, 2018 surrounded by his family after living a very adventurous and full life. Bent was the only child born to his parents Bent Davies and Ethel Wright Davies on October 8, 1925. Bent grew up in Los Angeles, California. He attended L.A. High until the tenth grade when he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II until honorably discharged in 1946, at which time he completed high school at Veterans High School. Following graduation, he enrolled at the University of Southern California majoring in Physical Education. He received his BS and California Teachers Credential in 1953. Bent taught high school for the LA City School system until he retired in 1985.

In 1951 Bent married Margaret Adele Martin who taught for Torrance Unified School District. They resided in the South Bay cities of Manhattan Beach, Rolling Hills Estates, and San Pedro. Together, they raised two sons, traveled the globe, golfed, became life-long Trojans, and supported community youth programs through the YMCA. Bent will be greatly missed by many friends and most especially by the family he leaves behind: His wife of 66 years, Margaret Davies, his sons, Chuck (Gwen) and Walter (Liz) and their beloved grandchildren Kyle (Evie), Bryan, Alyson, and Tyler.

A celebration of Bent’s life will be held at Green Hills, 27501 South Western Avenue in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. (Time and date pending) Burial will follow the funeral at Green Hills Cemetery. In reverence to Bent’s zest for fun and team spirit, dress casually or in his favorite USC apparel. NO SUITS OR TIES PLEASE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the San Pedro Peninsula YMCA or your favorite charity in his honor. Condolences may be left on Bent Davies’ online guest book at greenhillsmortuary.com

Important Announcement from Trojan Coaches Club President

Share

Hello Trojan Family and Friends,

Yes, your USC Trojan Coaches Club is alive and well, and back on campus!  As your Club President, yet again, the Board would like to share what’s been done and our plans moving forward.

At the Board Meeting of January 31, we brought in some “new blood” to the Board, namely:

  • Bill Payne (Vice President)
  • Jason Conroy (Treasurer)
  • Sonia Rodriquez (Social Media)
  • Mark Burrell (Website)

Staying the course, are loyal continuing Board members: Ray Regalado (Secretary and Meeting Check-In), Mike Gin (Past President), Dan Richardson (Merchandising), Dave Thompson (Sergeant at Arms) and Steve Gewecke and Dr. John Rodarte (At Large).  Please thank each of their willingness to serve!

Have you seen our updated website (thanks again Mark): usctrojancoachesclub.org? It contains lots more information, intended to keep us up to date and connected to our club’s heritage.

In April, we switched our Club’s checking account (where we had been paying a monthly fee) to Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (with NO fee).  And, we hosted a very successful Spring Game Tailgate, under the jet just north of the museum parking lot structure.  We likely had 75 attendees enjoying our camaraderie, beer (if you brought your own) and never-ending supply of tasty tacos and later of course, Trojan Football Spring Scrimmage.

We’re in negotiation to meet again during the summer at the Baseball Complex, for our usual libations, hot food, and inside scoop from a few of our esteemed coaches.

Oh, how you can help:  please renew your $25 annual membership:

and consider being our Membership chair.

Thanks for listening… and FIGHT ON!
